Objectives       : By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to :
i)                Name and identify the musical instruments.
ii)              Answer the questions posted orally.
iii)            Match the pictures with the phrases correctly.
Prior Knowledge         : Pupils have seen a few types of musical instruments during music
                                      lesson.

( 5 minutes )


To stimulate pupils’ interest on the topic.
1.      Teacher puts a few musical instruments into a big box and puts   the   box  on  teacher’s table.


2.      Teacher calls a   few   pupils at random to come and see what is inside the box.


3.      Teacher asks the pupils to give clues based on the objects that they have seen to the whole class.


4.      Teacher then writes the topic that she is going to teach.


1.      Pupil will act out the action of blowing a recorder.


2.      The other pupils have to guess   the instrument based on the clues given. If the pupils guess the instrument correctly then the instrument will be shown to the entire class.

To  introduce  musical instruments


1.      Teacher shows a set of pictures to the pupils.

2.      Teacher asks questions.
             Questions :

What are the names of  these musical instruments ?


1.      Pupils answer:

It is a guitar.
It is a violin.
It is a recorder.
            It is a  drum

3.      Teacher writes pupils answers on the board.





Practice
( 15 minutes)


To enable pupils to identify the musical instruments.

1.      Teacher writes the names of musical instruments on the board.

2.      Teacher then gives each pupil a worksheet and asks them to name the musical instruments.

3.       Teacher the calls a few pupils at random and asks them to read out their answers pertaining to the pictures.
      4.   Teacher writes the  correct answers on the board.

5.Teacher asks the pupils to read the words after her.
Example of words:
cello, sitar ,timpani, bagpipes ,
cymbals, bongo


1.      Pupils write the names of musical instruments.









2.      Pupils give their answers.





3.      Pupils correct the errors made if there are any.

4.      Pupils repeat the words after the teacher.

To evaluate pupils ability in identifying the musical instruments
1.      Teacher gives each pupil a worksheet.

2.      Teacher asks the pupils to look at the worksheet.
3.      Teacher asks pupils to read the phrases.
4.      Teacher asks the pupils if they don’t understand the meaning of any words.

5.      Teacher gives the meaning of the words if there are any.

6.      Teacher asks the pupils to choose the best phrase pertaining to the pictures seen.

7.      Teacher discusses the answers with the pupils.

8.      Teacher picks a few pupils at random and asks them to give their answers.

9.      Teacher gives  the correct answers.
  10.Teacher  ask  the                                         
   pupils  to  read                            the correct  answers.
