Here are some useful notes on musical instruments.

Musical instruments are divided into four categories according to the sounds they produce.
They are as follows :

1. Stringed Instruments

Stringed instruments produce sounds when the musician makes the  strings vibrate. Some examples of stringed instruments are the violin,  viola, cello, guitar, harp, sitar, mandolin , lute and the piano.

2. Wind Instruments

Wind instruments are instruments that make  sounds when the  musician blows air into a pipe or a tube. Some examples  of wind instruments are  the flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, recorder, bagpipes and the saxophone.

3. Brass Instruments

Brass instruments make sounds when the musician blows into them. These instruments are called brass instruments  because they are made of metal called brass. The trumpet, trambone, French horn, tuba and the  bugle are some examples of brass instruments.

4. Percussion Instruments

Percussion instruments are played by being hit or shaken. Once it is hit or shaken, a vibrating sound is made. Examples of percussion instruments are xylophone, triangle, bell, tambourine, wood block, timpani and gong.
