Here are some useful notes on musical instruments.
Musical instruments are divided into four categories according to the sounds they produce.
They are as follows :
1. Stringed Instruments
Stringed instruments produce sounds when the musician makes the strings vibrate. Some examples of stringed instruments are the violin, viola, cello, guitar, harp, sitar, mandolin , lute and the piano.
2. Wind Instruments
Wind instruments are instruments that make sounds when the musician blows air into a pipe or a tube. Some examples of wind instruments are the flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, recorder, bagpipes and the saxophone.
3. Brass Instruments
Brass instruments make sounds when the musician blows into them. These instruments are called brass instruments because they are made of metal called brass. The trumpet, trambone, French horn, tuba and the bugle are some examples of brass instruments.
4. Percussion Instruments
Percussion instruments are played by being hit or shaken. Once it is hit or shaken, a vibrating sound is made. Examples of percussion instruments are xylophone, triangle, bell, tambourine, wood block, timpani and gong.
